Madeira is located 1000 km into the Atlantic Ocean south-west from the Portuguese coast. The climate is wet, coastal with a nice temperature year round. It is an autonomous region, but part of Portugal. The language is Portuguese. The population is about 250.000.
We stayed in Funchal, Madeira for a week over Christmas in 1998. During the week we rented a car and took day trips to the west and South, as well as across the mountains and later on to the east tip of the island.
As with several other folders from before the digital camera age, the images in the following folders are scanned from color prints of the 10x15 cm format. Hence, the technical quality suffers, but the images still convey the experience we had.
