Scotland is an old nation, established as a state in the 9th century. The land area is 70 000 km2, and the population is about 5.3 million. The country has a long history of ship building, fishing, and in the later years salmon farming, and oil exploration.
The Scots have a long history and strong national identity. Politically, Scotland is in a union with England, but in recent years, the voices for severance have been strong.
Our visit to Scotland was in May 2011. Many of the pictures were taken while on the move from a minibus, as part of excursions we attended. Thus, the picture quality is not all that great. But I have tried to project the feeling of the Scottish countryside.
