The Highlands

The Scottish Highlands extends from an area North of Glasgow to the very North. The highest mountain is Ben Nevis at 1345 m asl. The Area is intersected by a geological fault line between Fort Williams on the Atlantic side of the country to Inverness on the North-East side.

Canals were built, and the Scottish military completed the canal in order to avoid heavy seas navigating around the whole of Scotland. However, when the canal was completed, the navy ships had grown in size, so today the canal is used for smaller commercial and pleasure crafts. The Highland consist of mountains and valleys, and some areas are sparsely populated. We joined a tour with a minibus from Glasgow all the way up to Inverness and back to Glasgow.
