Oslo is the capital of Norway, and has a population of about 710 000 in the municipality ans about 1.1 million in the greater urban area. As the map shows, the city is located at the end of a long and narrow fjord, protected by a number of smaller islands. To the north, there is a large preserved forest, which is one of the recreational ares of the city - the other being the sea.
The city has transformed from being a trading center to a modern city with a large art presence, like the Munch Museum, the Oslo Opera House, and the new National Museum, plus a number of art installations in the surroundings.
