Buenos Aires

We left Mendoza by bus to Buenos Aires. The driving distance on a fairly straight road is 1050 km. The bus was travelling non-stop by night, using 3 drivers, and stopping only in very few places in this sparsely populated region of Argentina. The trip took about 12 hours. At the start of the trip, the conductor served an Argentinean beef dinner, complete with red wine. The bus had only three seats across, were fully reclining, and we slept most of the time, being fully refreshed when arriving in Buenos Aires. Bus travel is the most common long distance transportation in Argentina, as air fares are quite expensive.

Buenos Aires has a population of about 15.5 millions. The city consists of several unique districts, and we visited La Boca, San Telmo, La Recoleta, Tigre, in addition to the central areas around Plaza de Mayo, the Congress buildings, etc.

Buenos Aires is located at the delta of Rio Plata, which is an extention of Rio ParanĂ¡, having a total length of 4880 km. The river is fed by Mato Grosso in the Pantanal district in Brazil, one of the largest wetlands on earth.

Buenos Aires is by far the most interesting city we have ever visited.
