Valleys of the Queens and the Kings

The Valley of the Queens is a site near Luxor, and where queens, princes, princesses, and other high ranking officials were buried. Pharaohs themselves were buried in the Valley of the Kings. The valleys are located on the west side of the Nile, where the sun goes down, and was intended to ensure a good afterlife.

In the Valley of the Queens, we visited the tomb of Nefertari. This is located underground and has a limit of number of visitors per day due to the risk of damage to the murals from high humidity. Due to the massacre three months prior, and the fact we arrived very early n the morning, the guards extended the 10 minute time limit - against suitable payment (!). The murals are fantastic with deeply saturated colors, 3400 years old.

In the Valley of the Kings we visited the tomb of Tutankhamen, possibly the most famous of the Egyptian pharaohs. This is a fantastic tomb with murals covering every surface in reach colors.
