Urubamba Valley was the sacred valley of the Incas. It is a a fertile valley, running 100 km west to east, at elevations between 2000 and 3000 m, and with Machu Picchu at the West.
The most notable Inca ruin is the Ollentaytambo (2871 m), which was built as a ceremonial site by the Inca emperor. It consists of terraces up the hill above the town. We happened to visit during a festival, when the people used their traditional clothing.
