Santiago

Santiago is located at an elevation of 570 m, and has a population of 7 million on the greater metro area. The city is a mix of old colonial style districts and modern high-rise buildings.

The history has a strong influence, including the Calicanto bridge over the Mapocho river is the main symbol of the city of Santiago after its freedom from Spain. A central small hill, Cerro Santa Lucia, was the place where the city was founded in 1541. Another hill with a breathtaking view is Cerro San Cristóbal, which is accessed by a steep tram ride. On the top, the view of the city fabulous.

The Presidential Palace (Palacio de La Moneda) is located in Santiago. But even if Santiago is by far the largest and most city in Chile, the government resides in Valparaiso.
