Santa Barbara is an idyllic city on the coast, about 160 km north of Los Angeles. We stopped there overnight on our way up the California Coast, and in to visit the University there, as our son had studied there some years earlier.
In addition to being a popular tourist and resort destination, the city has a diverse economy that includes a large service sector, education, technology, health care, finance, agriculture, manufacturing, and local government. The city has a population of about 90 000. Santa Barbara's climate is often described asMediterranean, and the city has been dubbed "The American Riviera".
