Riyadh is a modern city and the largest on the Arabian peninsula, with a population of about 7.8 million people. The streets are broad and the buildings modern. The city sits at an average of 600 meters above sea level, and receives around 5 million tourists each year,
Western non-citizen live mostly in (usually guarded) enclaves. Inside those, western way of living is common, including western clothing for women. I stayed in an apartment building owned by the consultant company I worked for.
The city hosts 114 foreign embassies, most of which are located in the Diplomatic Quarter in the western part of the city.
