Portugal West Coast

The West coast South of Lisboa begins on the peninsula North of Setubal and runs down to the South-West corner of Europe at Sagres. The area has only two commercial harbors, Setubal and Sines, half way down. Between Setubal and Sines the coastline is fairly flat with sandy beaches, but no natural harbors. South of Sines the terrain is quite different - mostly a flat plateau 20 - 50 m above sea level, and with an extremely rocky coastline. With a few smaller exceptions, there are no natural harbors, not even for fishing communities to settle.  Therefore, the coast has a relatively low population. Much of the area has the status of natural park or similar.
