Pamukkale is located 240 km north-west from Antalya. It is a unique geological site, generated by calcium-rich water running town a rocky hillside, forming multiple levels of water pools. And the size is impressive: 600 m wide and 160 m top to bottom of the hill. And the name Pamukkale in Turkish means "cotton fortress", which is looks like from below.
The Pamukkale side also include a pool area, named Aphrodite's Bath, and the very impressive Hierapolis from the 2nd century BC. The most impressive remaining structure is the huge amphitheater.
We stayed in a nearby hotel, complete with is own large thermal pools.
On returd to our base in Antalya, we visited a carpet factory, first showng us how to dye the yarn and ended up in their i shop for completed carpets (that was of course the hidden objective!)
