I got a chance to visit the Old Riyadh that now is totally abandoned. It gave a glimpse of what life could have been in the older times.
The old city area in southern Riyadh today is characterized by its low-contour earth-structured buildings. Most of the residents of the area migrated to other neighbourhoods during Riyadh's multiple phases of expansion in 1950s and after the 1970s energy crisis. Some of the neighbourhoods later got inhabited by foreign workers after the influx of skilled labourers into the country between the 1970s and 1980s in the aftermath of the 1973 oil embargo.
