Turkey invaded Cyprus in 1974 in support of the Turkish based population, and since the, the island has been divided. Nicosia sits right on the demarcation line between the North and the South.
Nicosia has a population of about 250 000, and is the largest city in the whole of Cyprus. It is a modern city, but has preserved the old City, which we visited.
We visited Nicosia on a daytrip on bout sides of the border, after having showed our passports.
