Neuswanstein

The Newswanstein Castle is located near the town of Füssen, south-west of München, at the end of the end of flat land, and just as the terrain raises into the Bavarian Alps.

The castle was built by King Ludwig II of Bavaria (1845 – 1886), as a retreat from the official seat of the kingdom in München. The castle is built on top of a steep hill, with even steeper terrain all around. It offers a spectacular view of the terrain all around. Inside the castle there are many magnificent rooms at several levels, and turrets makes into a fairy-tale like place. Actually, Walt Disney used Newswanstein as a model for his fairy-tale castle at Disneyland, California.

My wife and myself travelled to Newswanstein in 1984, one year after our son climbed a cliff behind the castle, fell, and lost his life, 29 years old.
