Archaeological Museum

We visited one of several locations of the Istanbul Archaeological Museum. This contained mostly artefacts from the Byzantine period of the city. A large part of the exhibition consists of floor mosaic from the period of Constantine I (280-337), during the time when the Roman Empire included most of Turkey and beyond.

The mosaic depicts daily rural life of the period. Also, the exhibition contains a multitude of Roman statues and murals. The mosaic is made of small cubes, with a density of up to 40 000 cubes per m2. These small pieces makes it possible to make drawings with great detail-
