Montevideo, Uruguay

Montevideo is the capitol of Uruguay, having a population of 1,76 million out of the total population in the country of 3,5 million. Almost the whole of the population has European origin. Uruguay is the country in South America with the higest income per capita, the middle class is more than half the population, and there is almost no real poverty. However, the Tourist Police insisted that we walked in the main streets only, to avoid getting into any criminal incident.


The city of Montevideo has a number of buildings from the colonial times, as well as high-rise office buildings. To us tourists, it showed an image of a modern society.
