Present day Luxor is a city with 1.3 million people and is the modern version of the ancient city of Thebes, the main city on the South Kingdom in Egypt.
Impressive ancient remains are the Luxor Temple and the whole Karnak Temple Complex. The columns are massive and densely arranged. Most are full of inscriptions.
