Lava Beds National Monument is located in north-eastern California. The monument lies on the north-eastern flank of Medicine Lake Volcano, which is the largest volcano by area in the Cascade Range. The lava flows were created by a number of eruptions, the most recent 1,110 years ago.
The area has numerous lava tubes, with marked entrances and developed trails for public access and exploration.
