Hong Kong was seized by Britain in 1842 and set under colonial administration. But in accordance with the original treaty, the territory was ceded to local administration in Hong Kong. All this time, and ever since, Hong Kong has been a financial center in Asia. This is evident when looking at all the skyscrapers, in particular on Hong Kong Island.
We visited Hong Kong in 2004, on the return from out travel to the Philippines. Thus, I used the same low resolution Olympus 5 Mbit camera.
Kowloon
We had a nice hotel in Kowloon on the mainland. Kowloon is the site for many great buildings, the cultural center, and an authentic Chinese community. In that area, shops selling electronics and camera proliferate.
A stroll along waterfront towards the strait between Hong Kong Island is interesting for people watching, as well as the heavy shipping through the narrow waters.
