Kistefoss is an industry museum and a sculpture park on the same site. It is located near the outlet of the big Randsfjorden Lake. Kistefoss Paper Mill was established by the industrialist Anders Sveaas in 1889. The paper mill was in operation until 1955, but was shut down such that it could be restated later. Therefore, all the original equipment is still intact, and is now a preserved museum of the the paper mill industry.
After a period of being an corporation, the grandson and investor Christen Sveaas of the original owner, acquired the property. The new owner is an art patron, and has over time acquired about 45 sculptures, now placed around the park surrounding the old paper mill.
The latest addition is a building spanning the river, having been given the name "The Twist", as the construction is literally twisted 90 degrees. The building is designing by the star architects BIG – Bjarke Ingels Group. The building is a piece of art by itself.
