Henley upon the River Thames

Henley is a town 60 km west of London, located on the great River Thames. It has a population of about 12 000. It was founded around year 1200, and has since then kept its image as a small, idyllic small town.

To the outside world, Henley is best known for the Henley Royal Regatta, where students from Oxford compete with Cambridge in rowing  over a course of 550 yards (2112 m) in boats with 8 rowers and a coxswain.

Henley has the very well known Henley Management Collage (now the Henley Business School), where our friend was a tenured professor. He and his wife also owned a house in Henley, where we stayed.

A notable features in Henley are the Henley Bridge is a five arched bridge across the river (built in 1786), and the Thursday outdoor market, which we attended.
