The airport is located due east of Nicosia, the previous capital. Famagusta is located due east, on the coast, and is the major commercial harbor of Northern Cyprus. That area is best agricultural land in the whole of Cyprus.
We stayed at a very nice and modern hotel in Famagusta. It was quite evident that the state catered to tourists. The city has a population of about 40 000. With Famagusta as a base, we were taken to a very nice, old church, say the remains of a large Roman bath, now labelled a Haram (being Islamic community), and enjoyed dancers at a Folk Performance.
