Edfu

Edfu is located further downstream from Kom Ombo.

The town is known for the major temple of Horus, built between 237 BC and 57 BC, into the reign of Cleopatra VII. Of all the temple remains in Egypt, this is the most completely preserved. It was built from sandstone blocks from a nearby quarry. Horus in Ancient Egyptian, is one of the most significant ancient Egyptian deities who served many functions, most notably as the god of kingship, healing, protection, the sun, and the sky.
