Dervishes

A dervish is any member of a Ṣūfī (Muslim mystic) fraternity. Within the Ṣūfī fraternities,  a prescribed discipline obliged the dervish to serve his sheikh, or master, and to establish a rapport with him.

Their focus is on the universal values of love and service, deserting the illusions of ego to reach God. In most Sufi orders, a dervish is known to practice dhikr through physical exertions or religious practices to attain the ecstatic trance to reach God.

We visited a dervish performance in a dedicated venue for this.
