Cape Horn lies on an island - Isla de Hornos, at latitude South 56º (plus a fraction more). Our cruise made a detour there on the sea leg from Ushuaia to the Falkland Islands, a distance of over 800 km. Our journey took us around the Cape, sailing from East to West and return on the North side. And surprise! - we had almost dead calm sea. That was usually not so in the older days with sail ships, sometimes fighting the weather for weeks to round the Horn.
