Almería was founded by the Moors around the year 950, for the purpose of control over the entrance to the Mediterranean. Today the city has a population of 200.000. Having a stable climate with a yearly everage temperature of 19 degrees, the main business is intensive agriculture, and in particular vegetables cultivated in greenhouses that cover large areas. The Moorish Alcazaba Castle is one of the lagest in the South of Spain, and provides a grand view from top of the hill.
