Algarve West

The Western part of Algarve is the most rocky, and the Atlantic Ocean is pounding the shores. For that reason, the Western area is very popular for surfing, and in particular in Bordeira up the coast. Cabo de Sao Vincente is "the corner of Europe", which shipping must pass before stearing East towards Gilbraltar.

Next to the town Sagres is the fort, located on a narrow spit of land, elevated 30-50 m above water, and with vertical cliff walls. Hence, the fort consists only of a heavy wall facing the land, as nothing is required facing the sea. Tyhe landscape is weather-beaten with no actual soil. But in the Springtime, flowers are sprouting up EVERYWHERE.
