Algarve Beaches
Algarve is world known for its beaches, and has more Blue Flag beaches than any other destination. Roughly from the middle of the 200 km coastline towards the West, the beaches are predominatly surrounded by high cliff, while in the opposite direction, the beaches become increasingly wider, with less and lower cliffs. Al beaches have a golden color, and consist of very fine grain sand.
The tide is beween 1,5 and 3 meter. This large exchange of water result in very clean beaches. At low tide, the sand is very firm due to lack of humus residue, enabling riding bicycles at the waters edge.
